Education
Service users have the opportunity and are encouraged to enrol on local education courses and activities and, if required, are supported by staff both inside and outside the classroom.
Involvement in learning can have a positive effect on individuals with mental health problems. Learning can help to promote confidence, improve self-esteem and provide a greater sense of purpose. Participation in learning enables people to meet other students, make new friends and improve their lifestyle and prospects.
The Almond Villas Group has signed up to the Lifelong Learning programme through Blackburn College, enabling service users to access a number of courses which can be practical, educational, informative or creative. Some courses are based at the main college campus and others are located at outreach centres within the town.
Lifeskills
In addition to participation in local education courses Almond Villas runs a series of in-house courses on subjects that service users may find relevant, including relapse prevention, relationships, health and diet and personal development.
