As part of their recovery, residents are supported to gradually take responsibility for their own medications, including those prescribed to treat their mental and physical health.
Residents are supported to develop their knowledge of the medications they take, including any potential side effects and to understand the importance of taking them regularly. Their ability to remember what times of day they need to take their medicines and to recall when their repeat prescription needs ordering are assessed on an ongoing basis, consequently residents engage in goal setting in order to increase their responsibility over a period of time.
When residents are ready to begin self-medicating they start by taking responsibility for one day's supply of medication and increase this in stages with the aim of taking responsibility for a full month's supply of medication. This includes ordering and collecting them independently, when they are ready to move on from Almond Villas.
