Leisure, Recreation and Social Inclusion

Almond Villas - providing mental health care and rehabilitation for young adults with mental health problems.

Service users have access to and can choose from a wide range of leisure and recreational activities. They are encouraged to develop and pursue their own interests and hobbies such as football, badminton, fishing, arts and crafts, computers, music etc. All service users are encouraged to participate in group trips and outings which are planned by the residents during House Meetings. In addition to the wide range of leisure pursuits and planned activities that are on offer, service users also have the opportunity to participate in two holidays per year.

Almond Villas values and seeks to reflect the racial and cultural diversity of our service users and the community in which we are located. Service users’ integration into community life is enabled through: knowledge about, and support for them to make use of services, facilities and activities in the local community (e.g. shops, library, cinema, pubs, leisure centres, places of worship and cultural centres).

Transport to access these facilities is provided and also service users are supported and encouraged to make use of free and concessionary priced public transport.

Holidays

put a good photo description in here

Almond Villas believes that all service users should have at least one holiday per year as part of a holistic programme of rehabilitation. We aim to facilitate this for all service users within the group.

Service users are supported on holiday by members of staff and chosen holiday venues are vetted beforehand for suitability. Service users are encouraged to save for such holidays.

Relationships

Service users are supported to maintain family links and friendships both inside and outside of the home. Subject to the restrictions of the individual care plan, home visits are facilitated and family and friends are welcomed into the home.

Service users are provided with opportunities to develop friendships in the wider community and to develop intimate personal relationships with people of their choosing. Information and specialist guidance with regards to relationships is available either through 1:1 counselling or keyworker sessions or therapeutic groups which focus on relationship issues.

Personal Support

Staff provide sensitive and flexible personal support to maximise service users’ privacy, dignity and control over their lives. Although times for getting up and going to bed are flexible, service users are encouraged towards a routine which involves regular sleep patterns and getting up in time to take their morning dose of medication.

Where it is required, guidance and support regarding personal hygiene routines is given. Service users are encouraged to choose their own clothes, hairstyle and makeup thereby developing their individuality and self esteem.
